Sonja E. Whitesell (nee Wulff), 64, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Saturday September 22, 2012 at the Ames Family Hospice in Westlake. She was born September 29, 1947 in Napoleon, Ohio, was raised in McClure, Ohio and graduated from Damascus Local School in 1965. Sonja graduated from Bowling Green State University with a B.S. degree in education in 1968. She moved to Elyria in 1968 and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1973. Sonja was employed by North Ridgeville City Schools and taught 4th grade at Wilcox Elementary School for 30 years. She retired in 1998. She was an avid reader and she loved to crochet and collect DVDs of old television programs. She also collected music from her childhood for which she could thank her Grandmother Wulff. Sonja was also an avid Cleveland Indians fan and after she retired she only wore Cleveland Indians themed clothing. She and her husband also enjoyed their years with various rescue pets, which enriched their lives. Sonja is survived by her husband of 42 years, Donald; her mother, Phyllis Wulff (nee Hoaglin) of Bowling Green; one sister, Denise Zephier of Bowling Green; one nephew, Keir Zephier and one niece, Glenn Zephier, both of Bowling Green. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Cecil Wulff and by an infant brother, Martin Wulff. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 13485 West River Road in Columbia Station. Rev. Gary Richard, pastor, will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to any animal rescue group or to the American Cancer Society. Liston Funeral Home, North Ridgeville, is serving the family.
