James W. Shoemaker, 89, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday February 28, 2018 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center in Elyria. He was born April 26, 1928 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Mr. Shoemaker has been a resident of Lorain County for many years. A veteran, he served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1949. He was employed as a Quality Control Inspector at the Ford Motor Company Brook Park Engine Plant for 30 years and retired in 1984. Mr. Shoemaker was a long-time member of Abundant Life Christian Center in Elyria. He enjoyed yard work and gardening. Mr. Shoemaker is survived by; his wife of 40 years, Leona May (nee Lee); his daughter, Sharon Leppien of Sheffield Lake; a grandson, Sean Rishel of Elyria; a granddaughter, Michelle Shoemaker of Jacksonville, FL; and by three great-grandchildren, Eric and Hannah Rishel and Adrianna Shoemaker. He was preceded death by; his first wife, Grace (nee Whittington) in 1977; two sons, James J. and Dennis M. Shoemaker; a sister, Peggy Schmidt; and by a brother, Harold Shoemaker. The family will receive friends on Sunday March 4, 2018 from 3 to 6pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. The funeral service will be Monday March 5, 2018 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Pastor Jerry Harper from Abundant Life Christian Center, will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon. Members of the Honor Guard from VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville, will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
