Betty Lou (Thompson) Marek

Betty Lou Marek (nee Thompson), passed away peacefully on Saturday February 17, 2024, which was her 97th birthday, at the Northridge Health Center in North Ridgeville.  She was born on February 17, 1927 in Newark, Ohio.  She moved to Cleveland at a young age and was a graduate of West Tech High School in Cleveland.  Betty Lou was a resident of Fairview Park for 70 years.  She loved writing, and for over 50 years she wrote a weekly cooking column and social column for the Westlife News.  She was a member for many years of Rocky River Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Fairview Park Historical Society, the Fairview Park Women’s Club, and Bay Arts.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, pottery, and arts and crafts.  Betty Lou Marek is survived by: her daughter, Cindy Leonard (Bill) of North Ridgeville; four grandchildren, Megan Lawson (John), Zach Leonard, Josh Leonard (Yana), and Zoey Vargo (Michael); and four great-grandchildren, Elle, Michael, Eli, and Isaac.  She was preceded in death by; her husband Eugene, her daughter Wendy Gadus, and her son-in-law, Michael Gadus.  The family will receive friends on Friday February 23, 2024 from 10am until the time of the Funeral Service at 12 noon at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville.  Rev. Peter Lawson from Rocky River Presbyterian Church will officiate.  Burial will be private at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg. On Friday evening from 6 to 9pm, the family will be holding a Celebration of Life Dinner in memory of Betty Lou Marek at Wagner's of Westlake, 30855 Center Ridge Road, Westlake.  Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
