Helen Byers (nee Seles), 84, of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2018 at O’Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville. She was born in Bradley, Ohio on March 3, 1934. She had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1968. Mrs. Byers was a registered nurse and received her nurses training at the School of Nursing in Steubenville, Ohio. She also received her BSN from the University of Akron and completed many credit hours towards her Masters of Nursing degree. She retired from the Aristocrat Nursing Home in Berea in 1997 and was honored by receiving the “Nurse of the Year” Award in 1992. Prior to working at The Aristocrat, she worked at several hospitals in the area. Along with her husband, Mrs. Byers also owned and operated the Colonial House Motel in North Ridgeville and she started her own business, A Slender You, also located in North Ridgeville. She formerly served on the North Ridgeville Visitors Bureau for a 3 year term and was actively involved in the First Night Celebration in North Ridgeville. Mrs. Byers was a member of First Baptist Church in Elyria. She enjoyed reading, exercising and gardening. She is survived by; her husband of 62 years, Gilbert T. Byers; three daughters, Pam Byers of North Ridgeville, Paula Cope of North Ridgeville and Allison McKimmy (Scott) of Centennial, CO; two sons, Thomas Byers of Long Beach, CA and Donald Byers of Elyria; six grandchildren, Lindsay, Rachel, Nathan, Matthew, Ashley and Brandon; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Colton and Chase and Matthew Jr; two sisters, Jeannie Zilich of East Liverpool and Joanie Kunzen (Don) of North Ridgeville; and by one brother, Don Seles of Sun City, AZ. She was preceded in death by; her parents, William and Lillian (nee Toth) Seles; one sister, Sylvia Graham; and by two brothers, William and Sonny Seles. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday November 30, 2018 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church, 11400 Lagrange Rd., Elyria. Liston Funeral Home, North Ridgeville, is serving the family.
