Samuel F. “Sam” Gray, 90, of North Olmsted, went home to be with the Lord on Friday September 6, 2019 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.  He was born October 30, 1928 in Helen, West Virginia.  He had resided in North Olmsted for the past 34 years and previously resided in Lakewood.  Sam was a 1946 graduate of Sophia High School in Sophia, West Virginia.  He was a veteran and served in the US Army during the Korean War in Germany.  After serving his country, Sam attended drafting school.  He was employed at Union Carbide in the Eveready Battery Division as a machine designer for over 30 years and retired in 1990.  Sam was a member of Abram Creek Baptist Church in Brook Park and he was formerly a long-time member of Grace Baptist Church in Westlake where he served as a deacon and as a member of the choir.  He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, carpentry, spending time with his family and being active in church.  Sam Gray is survived by: his wife of 69 years, Betty (nee Barr); one daughter, Diana Fitzenrider (Stan) of Concord, North Carolina; one son, Dean Gray (fiancé, Jessica Henry) of North Olmsted; two grandchildren, Karelyn “Kari” Meyers (Michael) and Jonathon “Jay” Boyer (Victoria); four great-grandchildren, Carter, Kennedy, Reid and Parker; one brother, Karl Gray (Phyllis) of Akron; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by: his parents, Frank and Lucy (nee Akers) Gray; four sisters; and five brothers.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday September 11, 2019 from 9:30am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11am at Abram Creek Baptist Church, 18664 Sheldon Road, Brook Park.  Pastor James Beight will officiate.  The burial will be at 2pm on Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted.  The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.  Liston Funeral Home, North Ridgeville, is serving the family.
