Velma M Tawney

Velma M. Tawney (nee Jones), 94, of Elyria, passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on August 10, 2019. She was born April 19, 1925 in Montgomery, West Virginia. Velma was a wonderful loving mother and grandmother, constantly putting her family’s needs before her own. She was a kind soul who loved helping others whenever she could. Velma loved watching the news, while scratching off lottery tickets. She also enjoyed slot machines and cooking for her family. Velma is survived by: two children, Trenna Tawney of Elyria, and John Tawney (Susan) of North Ridgeville; four Grandchildren, David Tawney of Elyria, Deona Jones of Elyria, Ashley Tawney of Berea, and Shawn Tawney of North Ridgeville; her great grandchild, Brody Pipper; three siblings, Brenda Hayes (Frank) of West Virginia, George Jones (Sharon) of West Virginia, and Freddy Jones of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Tawney of 37 years; her parents Sam and Ruby Jones; and by eight siblings, Maryann Jones, Kenneth Jones, Phyliss Butrick, Clyde Jones, Dusty Jones, Nessel Aleshire, Hazel Dodrill, and Emma Lou Carr. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm to 1:00pm with the service beginning at 1:00pm Thursday, August 15, 2019 at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. Pastor Brian Gardiner from New Community Baptist Church in North Ridgeville, will officiate. Burial will be at Butternut Ridge Cemetery in Eaton Township following the service.
