Anne N. Harjar, 86, Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 8, 2023 in North Ridgeville. She was born in Durham, North Carolina on November 30, 1936, the daughter of Dr. William M. Nicholson and Eunice (Stamey) Nicholson and sister of Samuel Nicholson (Sharon) and the late William Nicholson Jr. (Elizabeth) She attended Salem Academy and Duke University but was most proud when she received her Nursing degree from Lorain Community College, graduating at age 57 following many other successful careers. She became an OB/GYN nurse at Allen Memorial in Oberlin and worked for 7 years in obstetrics. In her later years, Mrs. Harjar was most known for her career as a beloved school nurse at Sailorway Intermediate School in Vermilion where she mostly resided since 1971.
In her lifetime, Mrs. Harjar had many interests. She was adventurous and loved to water ski, cross country ski, hike, and horseback ride for fun and shows. She was trained in classical piano and was a local piano teacher. Having a very generous spirit and known for her love of cooking, Mrs. Harjar was always sharing her baked goods and recipes. In her quieter moments, she was an avid reader, seamstress, and embroiderer.
Above all else, Mrs. Harjar was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a loving, caring wife. She put her many interests beneath her devotion to her family. She always made herself available to her children when coming home from school or needed support in any way. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Vermilion as well as her church community at Christ Episcopal Church in Huron. She loved serving the church in many capacities, and she was especially honored to sing in the church choir which gave her such great joy.
Mrs. Harjar was predeceased by her husband, Martin Harjar (2001), two daughters, Faye Anne (1959) and Kathryn Anne Grose Connelly (2006), and grandson Nicholas J. Mayer (1987). She is survived by one son, James P. Grose and three daughters, Margaret C. Brooks (Grose) and her husband Owen, Mary Elizabeth Schilling (Betsy Grose) and her husband Klaus, and Alicia McNeal Villalobos (LeeLee Grose) and her husband Juan. Mrs. Harjar is also survived by seven grandchildren, Owen E. Brooks III, (Jayme), William C. Brooks (Alana), Robert T. Brooks, Kathryn A. Connelly Mathe (Ryan) Meghan E. Chimiente (Nicholas), Jacob A. Villalobos, and Sarah M. Villalobos, and two great grandsons, Jacob O. Brooks and Walker A. Mathe. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Huron on Saturday January 13, 2024 at 2:00pm with a light reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church. She will be laid to rest beside her late beloved husband at the columbarium at Christ Episcopal Church.
