Betty J. Carpenter (nee Schweinfurth), 97, of Elyria, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday April 5, 2020 at The Abbewood in Elyria where she had resided for 21 years. Betty was born in Sandusky on July 3, 1922 and she was a 1940 graduate of Sandusky High School. Before moving to the Abbewood, she was a resident of Grafton for many years. Betty was a faithful member for many years of First Baptist Church of Elyria where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She enjoyed reading her Bible and telling others about Jesus. Betty loved writing and she had two books published, “Spring is in the Air” and “Looking For the Uppertaker”. She also enjoyed cutting out items and making them into 3-D pictures and bird watching. Betty is survived by: one daughter, Linda J. Quesinberry; three sons, Rev. Daniel T. Carpenter, David A. Carpenter and Rev. Donald A. Carpenter; 15 grandchildren; many greatgrandchildren; and by a dear friend, Janet Hand. She was preceded in death by: her husband of 65 years, Alvin D. Carpenter in 2006; a daughter, Sharon L. Turner and by her brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held Tuesday April 14, 2020 at 2pm at Butternut Ridge Cemetery in Eaton Township. Pastor Craig Golden from First Baptist Church of Elyria will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Elyria. Liston Funeral Home, North Ridgeville, is serving the family.
