Bobby L. Skaggs, 91, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, after a long illness, just a few months before his 92nd birthday at The Avenue at North Ridgeville. He was born December 29, 1931, in Charleston, West Virginia. Bobby graduated from Ansted, WV High School in 1949. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War with the military police. Bobby retired from General Motors after 25 years as a journeyman machine repairman. Following his retirement, he went on to be a real estate broker in Howenwald, Tennessee. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bobby enjoyed golfing, boating, and fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman and in his younger years he did a lot of big game hunting. In his lifetime Bobby has been a member of several organizations: He was a Free Mason and a member of the West Shore Masonic Temple #804 in Avon Lake, a lifetime member of VFW Post #1079 in Elyria, the Elyria Moose Lodge #778, the Amvets Post #32 in Elyria, American Legion Post #12 in Elyria, a lifetime member of M.O.C. (Cooties), and the Korean War Veterans Association. Bobby also served as the Captain for the VFW Honor Guard. He is survived by his six children, Cliff Skaggs (Ying), Rick Skaggs (Judy), Sherri Warner (Denny), Ardie Smith (Ed), Mark Skaggs (Anne) and Mary Cheney; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; two brothers, James Skaggs (Pat), and Dean Skaggs; and two sisters, Nancy Gallagher, and Dee Kumpar (Steve). Bobby was preceded in death by his loving wife of 19+ years, Ethel I Skaggs; his father, Clifford Skaggs; his mother, Mary J Skaggs; and his sister, Peggy Skaggs. The family welcomes friends to join them on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 11am to 12:45pm, with a masonic service beginning at 12:45pm, at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. Pastor David Swartz will officiate the funeral service immediately following. Bobby will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memory Gardens, in Avon, where members of the honor guard from VFW Post #1079 will conduct full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
