Bruce Konya Obituary

Bruce A. Konya, 79, of North Ridgeville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday December 28, 2021 at UH Elyria Medical Center in Elyria following a short illness.  He was born August 23, 1942 in Cleveland and had been a North Ridgeville resident for 50 years.  As a young man, Bruce was active in Scouting and attained the level of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Taylor University in Upland, Indiana where he was a member of the Taylor University “Marching 100” Band. He earned his Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) and worked as a school psychologist for the Rocky River City School District for 25 years, retiring in 1997.  A faithful and active church attender all of his life, Bruce was a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria where he served in the choir and played trombone in the church’s orchestra.  He was also a member of both the National and Cleveland Associations of School Psychologists.  A “natural salesman”, Bruce enjoyed selling the Entertainment Book and other items to his many friends, relatives and acquaintances through the years.  He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling, camping and sports.  Bruce A. Konya is survived by: his beloved wife of 57 years, Carolyn (nee Martin); his daughter, Coreen Joviak (Kurt) of Grafton; his son, Keith Konya of West Chester; seven grandchildren, Kassandra Newcomer (Caleb), Kailyn and Kalyssa Joviak, Giovanna, Quentin, Isabella and Sebastian Konya; and his sister, Judith Orban, and her family, of Parma.  He was preceded in death by: his parents, John J. and Helen (nee Petrik) Konya; an infant sister, Geraldine Konya; and his brother-in-law, Mike Orban.  The family will receive friends on Friday January 7, 2022 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11:30am at First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Road, Elyria.  Pastor David Burman will officiate.  Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.  The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either First Baptist Church of Elyria or to Word of Life Missionaries, Alex (Bruce’s cousin) and Pam Konya, serving the Lord in Hungary (www.wol.org/giving).
