Don E. Smith, 86, a longtime resident of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at O’Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville on April 22, 2021. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on January 10, 1935. Don worked for Branch Motor Express for 28 years and retired in 1985, Don also worked as a school bus driver for 10 years. He enjoyed old cars, going to the Lorain County Speedway to watch races, watching T.V., singing, and sports, especially the Indians, Ohio State, and the Browns. He coached youth baseball, and would often bring his children to watch local softball games. He was a member for 20 years at Fields United Methodist Church in North Ridgeville. Don is survived by: his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn Smith (nee Luce), 5 children, Robin (Don) Willis, Chuck Smith, Gayle (Gary) Hannold, Jean Smith, and Amy (Dwayne) Cabe; 7 grandchildren, Amber, Justin, Sara, Sean, Ashley, Nikki, and Dayne; and 7 great grandchildren, Nathan, Charlotte, Reid, Ellie, Cyrus, Willow, and Greenlee. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Charles and Viola Smith; and his 2 brothers, Harold Smith, and James Campbell. The family welcomes friends to join them on Monday April 26, 2021 from 3pm to 4pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. A private family service will follow with Rev Thomas Joyce, pastor of Fields United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Fields United Methodist Church.
