Evan Harrold Obituary

Evan M. Harrold, 82, of Elyria, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 30, 2021 at O’Neill Health Care in North Ridgeville, following a short illness.  He was born January 4, 1939 in Lucerne Mines, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Elyria for many years.  Evan was a proud veteran and served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963.  He was a supervisor at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain and retired in 1992 after 36 years of service. Evan was a 32nd Degree Mason and along with his father-in-law, Mr. Leslie King, he was a long-time member of Elyria Masonic Lodge #787.  He was also a member of American Legion Post #12 in Elyria and of First Congregational United Church of Christ in North Ridgeville.  An avid golfer, he enjoyed golfing on the American Legion League at Bob-O-Link Golf Course in Avon.  Evan had a knack for making conversation with everyone he met. Those who knew him considered him a gentleman’s gentleman. Evan Harrold is survived by: his beloved wife of 56 years, Kathleen “Kate” (nee King); two daughters, Leslie Thompson (the Late Ken) of Elyria and Leigh Kappelman (Rob) of Palm Coast, Florida; two grandchildren, Brittney Thompson of North Ridgeville and Jacob Thompson (Becca) of Wellington; a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by: his parents, Evan M. Harrold Sr. and Mabel Harrold (nee Smith); his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leslie and Charlotte King; his son-in-law, Ken Thompson on 12/21/2021; his sister, Annabelle Hollern; an infant brother, Ralph Harrold; and three additional brothers, Paul, Glenn and Tom Harrold.  A private service and interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, where full military honors will be conducted.  The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
