George E. Howard, 77, of LaGrange, went home to be with The Lord on Friday April 4, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Lorain, after winning his battle with cancer. He was born July 30, 1947 in Elyria and was a life-long resident of LaGrange, having graduated from Keystone High School in 1965. George was a veteran and served in the US Army from 1966-1969. He worked at Parker Hannifin in Elyria in the Airborne Division for over 30 years and when he left he was the supervisor of the Service Department. In 2000 he went to work for LaGrange Township on the road crew and retired in 2013. George was also a life-long farmer and never quit working his family farm in LaGrange. He was an active member for many years of First Baptist Church of LaGrange where he formerly served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and, trustee. He was also a member of the Future Farmers of America when in high school. George was a family man and cherished his beloved family members. His son Brad recently wrote, “Dad loved his family. Family was very important to Dad and he had many families: the family he was born into; the family he married into; the family he and mom created; his church family; his work family; his farm family; he even started a medical family. The older Dad got, the more these families blended as one big family. He was grateful for and concerned for all of the members of his family.” George also enjoyed Christmas, model trains and reading. He is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Jane (nee Wilmoth); three sons, Bruce (Susan) of Grafton, Brent (Michele) of Grafton, and Brad (Chrystal) of Stanley, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Logan, Morgan, and Riley Howard, and Ryanne Main (Daniel); two great grandchildren, Marcus and Naomi Main; five sisters, Dorothy Holloway of Elyria, Martha Howard of LaGrange, Loretta Boston of Elyria, Esther Garay of Elyria, and Jean Schnell (Gary) of LaGrange; and one brother, Lester Howard (Margie) of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Erwin S. and June A. (nee Mohler) Howard; a sister, Hazel Pearce; and a grandson, Dillon Howard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 8, 2025 from 4 to 7pm at First Baptist Church of LaGrange, 200 Church Street, in LaGrange. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday April 9, 2025 at 10:00am at the Church. Pastor Noel Hack will officiate. Burial will be at River Road Cemetery in LaGrange Township.
