George Mason Obituary

George Anthony Mason, 69, of Westlake, Ohio was peacefully welcomed home by the Lord on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 with his daughters by his side. He was born was born February 26, 1950, in Cleveland. Husband and Best Friend of the Late Margaret M. Mason (nee Schwind); Loving Dad to Rebecca Sirek (Keris) and Sarah Mason; Pop-Pop to Anthony John (AJ), Noah, Savannah, & Carson Sirek; Brother of the Late Maureen O’Boyle (Danny O’Boyle - deceased) and the Late Margaret Mary Schwind (Dick Schwind). He was a great man, a Husband, Father, Brother, Mentor, and a true friend to many. He was loved dearly.

In his younger years, George pursued the quest for priesthood at Borromeo Seminary of Cleveland, during which time he met and fell in love with his wife-to-be of 40 years – thus reverting his former decision on the priesthood. George and Maggie married in July of 1973, moved to Texas in the late 70’s, and moved back to Cleveland years later with their two daughters in tow to be close to family. George built gardens, lightning bug catchers, dollhouses for his daughters, and forts in the forest. He grew gigantic pumpkins in the backyard garden and raised even more gigantic turkeys for some of the most truly epic Thanksgiving gatherings.

George was a devoted life student of nature, faith, kayaking, adventure, and all things creative writing. He was a talented photographer, an avid fan of camping, a player of the kazoo, and the biggest supporter of road trips across the country – especially out West or down South. He loved CAVS basketball & Mount Union football. He tinkered, built, engineered, and innovated new methods for random problem-solving curiosities - everything from efficient heating calculations to the even distribution of laundry detergent. A true Creative, he was.

George had a heart for serving others and worked with the communities at The City Mission and Greater Cleveland Christian School. He dedicated himself to the Word and to his NOEFC church community - with the depth of his Christian faith actualized in a 2014 trip to the Holy Land.

A kind smile. A warm spirit. A goofy sense of humor. And a loving heart.

George is reunited with his Love in the presence of God. He will be missed greatly and remembered with more joy and gratitude than words can describe.

The Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 12-2pm with a Home-Going service directly following at 2pm at North Olmsted Evangelical Friends Church, 5665 Great Northern Blvd., North Olmsted, Ohio.
