Herbert “Jack” Poe, 70, passed away following a short illness on November 21, 2021 at the Cleveland Clinic in Avon. He was born November 1, 1951 in Roanoke, Virginia to Elias Dodson Poe II and Jean Poe (nee Watts). Jack recently moved to Oberlin and previously had resided in Lodi. When he was four, the family moved to Eaton, Ohio and eventually to Richmond, Indiana. He was a graduate of Richmond High School and he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He also attended Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, Florida. In high school and college, Jack very successfully wrestled at the heavyweight level, finishing his career winning many tournaments. He worked in sales his entire life. In 1990 he started the HVAC Solutions Company in Lodi and recently turned the reins of the company over to his children, Michael and Emily. He served on the Portage, Ohio Village Council and the Westfield Township Zoning Board of Appeals. Jack was a wild, curious, charismatic dreamer. His children were his joy in life. He coached baseball and was a Boy Scout Leader. He was the number one cheerleader at all their events. In recent years he became interested in Bonsai. He was a past member of the Sandusky Bonsai Club and had dozens of trees he was tending. Herbert “Jack” Poe is survived by; one son, Michael Poe (Stephanie Poe Gruet) of Columbus; two daughters, Sarah Poe (Kurt Johnston) of North Ridgeville and Emily Poe of Cleveland Heights; a step-daughter, Michelle Toburen Morales (Jose Morales) of Los Angeles, CA; a granddaughter, Cora Johnston-Poe; two step-grandsons, Cameron Rowland (Leslie Ash) and Conor Rowland; two brothers, Elias Dodson Poe III (Margaret) of Towson, MD and Richard Poe (Divinia) of Keizer, OR; an aunt, June Poe of Roanoke, VA; a nephew, Elias Dodson Poe IV of Towson, MD; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Henry Poe. The family will receive friends on Saturday December 4, 2021 from 1 to 3pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville, and at 3pm there will be a time to share remembrances of Jack. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Cloverleaf Music Associates.
