James Leland Graves II, lovingly known as “Jimmy” to his family and “Jim” to his friends, passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2025, in Brook Park, Ohio, at the age of 67.
Jim was born on March 28, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, to James Leland Graves and Margaret Avonnelle Graves. He spent his early years in Brunswick, Ohio, before moving with his family to Fairview Park, where he attended high school and graduated.
Named after his father, Jim went on to build a successful career with Hanover Shoes, managing stores in several states. A man of quiet strength and gentle spirit, Jim enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was well known for his long daily walks – no matter the weather – and could often be seen strolling through his neighborhood in Middleburg Heights.
Jim loved movies, video games, and was a lifelong devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians, now the Cleveland Guardians. He had a deep appreciation for nature, especially sunflowers, and took great joy in watching the squirrels on his patio.
Jim is survived by his son, James William “Jimmy” Graves, with whom he shared his home in Middleburg Heights; his daughter Ann Therese “Annie” Graves of Brook Park; his sisters Linda Graves Frye and Patricia Male (Daniel); his brother Jeffrey Graves (Pam); and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandparents, John and Verla Graves, and Albert and Margaret Torner.
Jim will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet nature, and his gentle soul. In his honor, please take a moment to be kind to those you meet – you never know what burdens they may carry. Share a smile, enjoy a walk, plant a sunflower, or feed the squirrels, and pass on a little happiness in Jim’s memory.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family and friends.
