Janie L. (Ison) Smith

Janie L. Smith (nee Ison), 57, of Tucumcari, New Mexico, formerly of Lorain, passed away at her residence on December 27, 2022 following a brief illness.  She was born March 23, 1965 in Lorain.  Janie was a graduate of Lorain High School and she received her Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assisting from North Central Technical College.  She formerly worked as a physical therapist assistant at the Elyria United Methodist Village, Lorain Community Hospital and Elyria Memorial Hospital.  She also did home health care physical therapy in both Ohio and New Mexico.  Janie was a long-time member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church, both in Lorain.  After moving to New Mexico, she attended Center Street United Methodist Church in Tucumcari.  Janie loved her family, being outdoors and animals.  She also enjoyed weekend trips to Santa Fe and Ruidoso while living in New Mexico.  Janie L. Smith is survived by: her husband of 42 years, Matthew W. Smith Sr.; two sons, Matthew W. Smith Jr. (Aurora) of Lawrenceville, GA and Scott A. Smith (Jeanie) of Sheffield Lake; four grandchildren, Joshua, Haileigh, and Aydan Smith and Audrey Walker; her parents, Rev. Jack and Earlene Ison of Lorain; her sister, Jacqueline Holt (Tom) of Lorain; her brother, Wes Ison (Dorothy Sharp) of Palm Bay, FL; two nephews, Jeremy McCarty (Meghan) and Garrett Ison; and two great-nieces, Elizabeth and Amanda McCarty.  She was preceded in death by: her paternal grandparents, Ernest and Ada Ison and her maternal grandparents, Ernest and Lula Varney.  The family will receive friends on Thursday January 5, 2023 from 4 to 7pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville.  The funeral service will be Friday January 6, 2023 at 11am at the funeral home.  Janie’s brother, Wes Ison, will officiate the service.  Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
