Joseph F. Collins, 90, of Elyria, passed away following a short illness on Tuesday July 16, 2024 at UH Elyria Medical Center. He was born November 26, 1933 in Gobey, Tennessee and had resided in Elyria for many years. Joseph was employed by the Ford Motor Company for 38 years at the Lorain and Avon Lake plants and entered retirement at the start of 2000. He was a member of UAW Local 2000 in Avon and he regularly attended First Baptist Church in Elyria. He enjoyed maintaining and working on cars, going to car shows, visiting with his brothers and going to flea markets. Joseph Collins is survived by: four daughters, Melba Asbury (Rick), Lynette Westmorland, and Narelle Simmons (Chris), all of Elyria, and Suzanne Strosser (Steve) of Nevada; six sons, Stephen Collins (Karen), Rex Collins, Nathan Collins (Pamela), and Paul Collins (Joy), all of Elyria, Michael Collins (Belinda) of Lorain and Jason Collins (Erika) of Florida; 35 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Madge (nee Goodrich) in 2006; his daughter, Glenda Ross in 2004, an infant daughter, Nila Collins; an infant son, Mark Collins; two sisters, Ruth and Mary; and five brothers, James, Johnny, Raymond, Richard, and Billy Collins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 24, 2024 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm at First Baptist Church, 11400 Lagrange Road, Elyria. Rev. Dr. Patrick Odle will officiate. The burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria. Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church of Elyria.
