Joseph Haas Obituary

 

 

Joseph E. Haas, 82, of North Ridgeville, passed away Wednesday July 10, 2019 at Avon Oaks Caring Community in Avon.  He was born June 22, 1937 in Cleveland.  Mr. Haas was a life-long resident of North Ridgeville and a 1955 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School.  He also attended Fenn College of Engineering in Cleveland.  A veteran, he served in the US Navy for three years and travelled to both the North Pole and the South Pole while in the Navy.  Mr. Haas was a 50 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #18 in Cleveland.  He was employed at Gildenbach and Co. in North Ridgeville for over 30 years. He then worked as an Operating Engineer Superintendent at the S. W. Franks Company in Cleveland and worked on the Jacobs Field project in Cleveland and the Ravens Stadium project in Baltimore, Maryland.  He finished his long construction career with KMU Construction in Avon.  He was a life-long member of St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville.  He also belonged to the Elyria Moose Lodge and AMVETS and he was active at both VFW Post #7035 in Avon and at VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville.  In his spare time, Mr. Haas enjoyed gardening, traveling and gambling.  Joseph E. Haas is survived by; one daughter, Maria Jane Dinner (Todd) of Erie, PA; one son, Joseph M. Haas (Paula) of York, PA; seven grandchildren, 1LT Joseph R. Haas US Army, Mary Elizabeth Haas, Michael, Nicholas, Hope and Faith Dinner, and MNCS (SW/EXW) Russell P. Stratford USN (Yuki); three great-grandchildren, Jesse Marsteller and Case and Maddie Stratford; three sisters, Mary Koviak Tkalcec of Sheffield Village, Helen Hutman (Donald) of Elyria and Sister Mary Lucia Haas SND, of Chardon;  and by one brother, Robert C. Haas of Avon.  He was preceded in death by; his wife of 44 years, Sandra Haas (nee Rieth) in 2007; his parents, Martin and Edith (nee Sutter) Haas; three brothers, Lawrence, Richard and Martin Haas; and by a faithful friend, Judy Jackson. The family will receive friends on Sunday July 14, 2019 from 3 to 7pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville.  A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday July 15, 2019 at 11:15am followed by a 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville.  Rev. Robert Franco, pastor, will celebrate the Mass.  Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery in North Ridgeville where full military honors will be conducted by members of the honor guard from VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville.  The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Avon Oaks Caring Community in Avon.  The family would like to say a special thank you to everyone at Crossroads Hospice and at Avon Oaks Caring Community for the excellent and kind care that they gave to Joe.
