Joseph T. Pesch Sr., 89, of Sheffield Lake, went to be with our Lord on Saturday July 29, 2023, with his family at his bedside, at The Lutheran Home at Concord in Westlake. He was born January 13, 1934 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He has been a resident of Sheffield Lake since 1958. Joe married the love of his life, Dolores, 69 years ago and together they’ve enjoyed many years of traveling, cruising and relaxing at their trailer at Pierlon Campground. Joe’s career was spent doing what he loved…sales! He worked in sales for many years at Snap-On Tools, Fruehauf Trailer and Ford Dealerships. During the 1960’s, Joe was very active in the Sheffield Lake Jaycees and he served in many elected positions. He was also instrumental in starting a new chapter of the Jaycees at the Grafton Honor Prison Farm. In 1961 he was voted “Young Man of the Year” in Sheffield Lake. His service to the community also involved serving for 17 years on the Sheffield Lake Planning Commission. Joe and Dolores acted as chaperones for the old “Teen Canteen” at the West Shore Club, which eventually was replaced by the Joyce Hanks Community Center in Sheffield Lake, for which Joe served as a Trustee. Until June of this year, Joe also served as treasurer for the local TCA Chapter. He was also the former president and active member of the Elyria Chapter of the Gyro International Club. Joe and Dolores have been active members of First Congregational United Church of Christ in North Ridgeville, where Joe has served in many different ways over the years. Sadly, Covid and severe back-issues challenged their ability to remain as active in the last several years, as they had once enjoyed. Joseph T. Pesch Sr. is survived by: his beloved wife, Dolores (nee Kemler); his daughter, Sharon Re (Pietro) of Elyria; two sons, Joseph Pesch Jr. (Sandra) of Grafton and Steven Pesch (Barbara) of Elyria; his son-in-law, Robert Sigworth of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his daughter, Regina Sigworth in 1986 and his son-in-law, Sam Laurio in 2007. The family will receive friends on Wednesday August 2, 2023 from 3-5 and 7-9pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville, and again on Thursday August 3, 2023 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am at the funeral home. Pastor Bill Shomo will officiate the service. Burial will be at Ridgeville Cemetery in North Ridgeville. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to First Congregational United Church of Christ in North Ridgeville.
