Katherine M. Kistner

Katherine M. Kistner, 101, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Parkside Villa in Middleburg Heights.  She was born March 14, 1921 in Roulette, PA and had resided in Brook Park for many years. Growing up, she excelled in sports, especially softball and baseball with her five older brothers.  She was an avid fan of the Cleveland professional sports teams.  Katherine graduated from Roulette Township High School in 1939 and then attended Westbrook Commercial Academy in Olean, NY for two years.  After working for 8 and a half years in the accounting department of the North Penn Gas Company in Port Allegany, PA, she left to train for her life calling of Christian service and attended Baptist Bible College in Johnson City, NY.  After graduating, she came to Cleveland to work in the home office of Baptist Mid Missions, a global missionary agency. She received her Bachelor’s degree of Business Administration in 1971 and her Master’s degree of Business Administration in 1975, both from Cleveland State University.  Katherine later went to work for Caravan Packaging, Inc., in Brook Park and retired as the office manager after 20 years of service. When she retired, she toured several European countries, including the United Kingdom, as well as many other places in the USA. She also toured New England and visited the Hawaiian Islands.  Katherine was an avid swimmer and completed several Red Cross swimming courses at the Brook Park Recreation Center. After retiring from Caravan Packaging, she worked as a swimming instructor to both children and adults at the Center and also worked at the Brook Park outdoor waterpark.  For her 100th birthday, the mayor of Brook Park presented her a proclamation honoring her service to the community. Katherine was a devoted member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church in Cleveland Heights.  She is survived by: many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.  She was preceded in death by: her parents, Carl L. and Grace A. (nee Doughty) Kistner; two sisters, Joyce Kellogg and Lorraine Kistner; five brothers, Joe, Carl, Fred, Paul and Roy Kistner; her long-time cherished friend and roommate, Carolyn Bardole; and many other dear friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Mid Missions, 7749 Webster Rd., Middleburg Heights, OH 44130.  Katherine will be buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg on Thursday May 19, 2022 at 1:15pm.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 11, 2022 at 1pm at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, 12601 Cedar Rd., Cleveland Heights.  Pastor Larry Green will officiate.
