Margaret E. “Peggy/Peg” Fousek, of Avon and formerly Bay Village, was born on May 29, 1933 to Robert Thomas Cope and Gladys Bourquin Cope in Lakewood, Ohio. A graduate of Lakewood High School, Peg worked as a bookkeeper in the Cleveland area most of her life. She eventually worked as a rural mail carrier for the Postal Service, from which she retired. In her youth, Peg placed her faith in Jesus as her personal Savior. She was involved in a local Baptist church for over 50 years. As her health was declining, Peg often expressed her wish to be home with Jesus soon.
In 1978, Peg married Melvin Fousek and they celebrated over 40 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing and boating in East Harbor and the Lake Erie islands with their family and friends. Grandma Peggy loved playing games with their grandchildren, especially Rummikub and Yahtzee. She also enjoyed knitting and needlepoint and other crafts. Peg also loved her Cleveland sports teams, especially the team formerly known as the Indians. (She would chuckle at reading this.) She would commiserate with her nephew regarding the Browns. Peg was good at puzzles of all sorts and usually had a puzzle in process on a card table in her living room. She could work out a Wordle puzzle in her mind and usually have it figured out in 4 guesses or less. According to her family, Peg always knew the answers to their questions about various topics. They remember her fondly as something of a delightful curmudgeon. While often serious and businesslike, Peg could take a joke and laugh at herself. She was generous and leveraged what she had to care for others.
Peg died on May 25, 2024 at Brookdale Village in Westlake, Ohio. She is now enjoying being in the presence of Jesus, her Lord and Savior. She is survived by her sister Nancy Payton, step children, Sharon (Mike) Dobson, David (Cindy) Fousek, Steven (Judy) Fousek, Sally Mierop, Mark (Cheryl) Fousek, 6 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren; nieces and nephew Kim (Phil) Southwell, Becki (Tim) Konuch and Thurm (Lisa) Payton and their families (11 great nieces/nephews & 9 great-great nieces/nephews). Peg was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her sister, Barbara Cope, and brother-in-law, DeElda Payton.
Funeral Services will be Sunday June 2, 2024 at 2pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Peg’s nephew, Pastor Thurm Payton will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service. Interment will be Monday June 3, 2024 at 9:30am at Elmhurst Park Cemetery in Avon
