Marjorie Odor (nee Carpenter), 93, of Elyria, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday February 26, 2020 at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria. She was born on the family farm in Pittsfield on May 22, 1926. Marjorie was a 1944 graduate of Oberlin High School where she was actively involved with the Girls Singing Ensemble. She then attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where she was a voice major and a member of the Moody Chorale. Marjorie then attended Houghton College in Houghton, New York where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music. Along with her late husband, Rev. Frank Odor, Marjorie served in ministry for over 50 years. They founded and served at Midview Baptist Church in North Eaton from 1955-1965. While living in North Eaton, she taught music in the Amherst School System for a few years. They then founded and served the congregation of Vienna Baptist Church in Vienna, OH from 1965-1973 and then again from 1981-1992. They also served the congregation of Bible Baptist Church in Newark, OH from 1973-1981. Marjorie and Frank returned to Lorain County in 1996 and again served the congregation of Midview Baptist Church from 1996-2004. She was always involved in the ministry of music and often served as the church choir director. Marjorie was a well-known soloist and sang in the Warren Civic Chorus and later in the Lorain County Chorale until the age of 88. She was also involved in several ladies ministries through the Ohio Association of Regular Baptist Churches. She and Frank enjoyed traveling and in 1993 they traveled to The Ukraine with Campus Crusade Ministries where they had the opportunity to educate public school children about Christian values and morals. She was a very devoted wife, mother and pastor’s wife and she was a prayer warrior. Marjorie also enjoyed gardening and visiting her many friends. She is survived by: two sons, Ronald Odor (Joyce) of Westerville, OH and Dr. Richard Odor of Pataskala, OH; three grandchildren, Erin (Ben), Ryan and Emily Joy; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Rev. Frank Odor in 2018; by her parents, Elwin and Viva (nee Alexander) Carpenter; a sister, June Howard; and by two brothers, Alvin and Richard Carpenter. The family will receive friends on Friday March 6, 2020 from 6 to 8pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. The funeral service will be Saturday March 7, 2020 at 11:00am at Midview Baptist Church, 36710 Royalton Rd., (Route 82) in North Eaton. Pastor Tim Mayo will officiate the service. Burial will be at LaGrange Cemetery in LaGrange. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Midview Baptist Church.
