Mark Hayes Obituary

Dr. Mark W. Hayes, 70 of Fairview Park passed from this life on November 30th in the Seidman Cancer Center following an extended cancer treatment and stem cell transplant. He was born December 13, 1948 in Cleveland, OH.  He was adopted as an infant and raised as an only child.  His adoptive parents both passed away while he was in high school. Mark served in the United States Army where he earned a rating as a marksman. Upon his discharge in 1968, he went to school to be an anesthetist and worked in a large teaching hospital that specialized in treating trauma, burn and chest-related cases. He returned to school earning a degree in podiatry medicine and managed his own practice for 13 years.  He later left the profession and, along with his wife, founded Global Intermed, a company specializing in the sale and repair of medical supplies and equipment. In addition, Dr. Hayes obtained his Law Degree from the University of Akron School of Law. While there, he wrote a book detailing medical product liability pertaining to US FDA regulations and the marketing of medical devices. He was an avid chess player who competed internationally, an ASPCA member and advocate for animals, and he volunteered with the Big Brothers program of Lorain County. Mark is survived by his loyal and beloved wife, Susan, and their two Cairn Terriers, Auggie and Tucker. He will be inurned in a private graveside ceremony at Western Reserve Cemetery in Rittman, OH.  Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to University Hospitals cancer research in Cleveland and on-line at www.uhgiving.org .  Mark will be sadly missed.
