Mary K. Sapp (nee Godby), 67, a longtime resident of Elyria, passed away unexpectedly at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center on Sunday April 11, 2021. She was born on August 10, 1953 in Fayette County, West Virginia. She graduated from Cedarville College in 1971 with a Nursing degree. Mary worked at Health Hill Children’s Hospital and later at Mercy Health Lorain Hospital for 29 years, retiring in 2019. She was a member of the Service Employees National Union post #1199 in Lorain and a former member of Midview Baptist Church in North Eaton. Mary loved cats and enjoyed: crocheting blankets and scarves for her family, studying her family's genealogy, and Civil War history. She loved to the extreme and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Mary is survived by: 3 children, Samuel Clayton-Hellard (Justine), Seth Hellard, and Jessica Lopez (Miguel); 6 grandchildren, Kimy, Taylor, Tyler, Seth Jr., Mikayla, and Mateo; 2 brothers, Paul Godby, and Wayne Godby; her sister, Lezlie Stires; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Louis Godby and Eugenia Burgess (nee Wise), and by her brother, Jim Crouse. The family welcomes friends to join them on Friday April 23, 2021 from 4pm to 6pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. A private family service will follow.
