Robert J. Smith

Robert J. Smith, 77, a long time resident of Lorain County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Mercy-Health Lorain Hospital on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was born August 31, 1945, in Cleveland. Robert is a veteran of the United State Army, and served in the Vietnam War. Robert worked at the steel mill in downtown Cleveland for 46 years before retiring. He enjoyed stock car racing, was an avid Cleveland sports fan, and always had a Pepsi in his hand. Robert touched the hearts of many people, and helped others whenever he could. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Ramona; five children, Brian Smith (Danielle), Becky Clanin, James Schnitz III, Michael Schnitz, Katherine Laseke (Patrick); six grandchildren, Crystal, Brian, Renay, Emma, Michael Jr., and Elijah; his niece, Carrie; two nephews, Jimmy, and Bo; his great niece, Alexis, and two great nephews, Deaven, and Jimmy. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Margaret Smith, and his sister, Barbara Krejci.  The family welcomes friends to join them Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 7pm to 9pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 9, 2023, at 10am, at Resthaven Memory Gardens, in Avon. Rev. Robert Franco, Pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville, will officiate. Members from the Honor Guard of VFW Post # 9871 in North Ridgeville will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
