Shirley J. Worcester (nee Pallas), 97, and a long-time resident of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 16, 2024, at The Avenue nursing facility in North Ridgeville.
She was born August 30, 1926 in Elyria, and was a graduate of Elyria High School and Oberlin School of Commerce. She began work life at Republic Steel’s Elyria steel and tube plant. After marriage in 1952, she moved to North Ridgeville, where she assisted her husband for many years in the operations of their business, Worcester Sales and Service, Inc.
She loved her role as a mother and homemaker. For many years, Shirley was a very active member of Fields United Methodist Church, where she faithfully sang in the choir, sang solos for worship and weddings, and was involved in several church mission trips and projects, including Methodist Nomads. She also was a member of North Ridgeville Historical Society and Sweet Adelines. Shirley enjoyed camping with her family, and co-piloting her husband’s Cessna aircraft.
Shirley J. Worcester is survived by two Worcester sons, Thomas (the late Charlotte) and Alan (June); and three adopted Hogue sons, Barry (Linda), Rev. Garry (Beverly), and Douglas (Melissa); and 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Delbert T., in 2020; her daughter-in-law, Charlotte, in 2022; and her parents, Reinhardt and Emma (nee Fuchs) Pallas.
The family will receive friends on Friday June 21, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Rd., North Ridgeville. Rev. Sondra Snode will officiate the service. Burial will be at Fields Cemetery in North Ridgeville. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Fields United Methodist Church.
