Thomas J. “Tom” Broome, 89, of Elyria, went home to be with The Lord on Monday February 9, 2026 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake. Tom was born in Oberlin on December 1, 1936, attended LaGrange High School, and had been a life-long Lorain County resident. He was a proud veteran and served in the US Marine Corp from 1954-1968, achieving the rank of Staff Sargent. He was involved in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, working as a jet engine mechanic and as a machine gunner aboard a Huey Helicopter. Tom worked at Bendix Westinghouse in Elyria for 16 years and then went to work at World Color Printing in Oberlin for another 16 years before retiring in 2000. He continued working at World Color Printing part-time for seven years after retiring. Tom was a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria, VFW Post #6941 in Wellington, AMVETS #32 in Elyria, and Lorain County DAV Chapter #49. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Wild Game Dinners at First Baptist Church, and formerly serving in the Oberlin Color Guard. Thomas Broome is survived by: two daughters, Crystal Jones, and Melissa Bischoff (Donny); two step-daughters, Jackie Hopkins, and Janet Sivec (John); two close grandsons, Vincent and Antonio Lupico; several other grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Broome (Eleanor); and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Dorothy Hopkins Broome in 2011; three sons, Michael, Howard, and Charles Broome; two sisters, Yvonne Welter, and Margaret Teeham; four brothers, Richard, Wesley, William, and James Broome; and a step-son, John Hopkins Jr. The family will receive friends on Thursday February 12, 2026 from 4 to 7pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. The Funeral Service will be Friday February 13, 2026 at 11:30am at First Baptist Church, 11400 LaGrange Rd., Elyria. Pastor David Burman will officiate the service. Burial will be at River Road Cemetery in LaGrange Township.
