To the Wilder family:
Thank you for sharing the ritual of David's passing with us at John Carroll. David was my dear colleague and friend; his death leaves an absence in my heart and in the education community. But all of us who worked with and knew him are the stronger and better for his tireless efforts to improve himself and the world around him. The John Carroll memorial inspired me to continue the work that needs to be done to get the world closer to the vision David had for it. I hope seeing his many friends and colleagues gathered at the memorial to honor him gave you, his family, comfort during this difficult time.

It was an especially sad day for any student who ever took a class from David. He went above and beyond what was written in a syllabus. He took the time to take the class on field trips in the Flats and to nearby parks inspiring us to paint. Oh, what a loss for the academic community! Words cannot describe.

Peace to Mr. Wilder and his family and peace to the city of Cleveland that we may eliminate the senseless violence. With deepest sympathy from a Tri-C colleague who never met Mr. Wilder but mourns the tragedy of his passing.
